PAGER is a small radio receiver that works on a particular frequency. Messages are relayed one way only from sender to receiver, i.e. the pager. The pager gives a voice or vibration signal to denote that a message has arrived. Pager is never occupied. All received messages are saved in the pager's memory noting their time of arrival and the owner can read them again later.

THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PAGERS ARE IN USE:

• TONE PAGER can receive eight different signals. The meaning of the signals must be agreed beforehand.
• NUMERIC PAGER can receive numeric messages of up to 15 characters. The message may be in the form of e.g. a phone number which the owner of the pager should call to, or a previously agreed combination of numbers. Numeric pager also has all functions of a tone pager.
• TEXT PAGER can receive texts of maximum 90-400 characters. Text pager also has all functions of a numeric or tone pager.
